In Times of War

In Times of War was an exhibition of war-related artifacts and art that was on display at the Florence County Museum from October 2015 to May 2016. The exhibit presented an overview of the area's rich material history relating to military conflicts, from pre-Civil War to WWII. As the museum's visual communicator, I partnered with the curatorial staff to brand, design, and install the graphical components for the exhibit and its marketing.

The exhibit showcased objects from the museum's permanent collection, as well as loaned works of art produced by Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, and Gerhard Berretz. I was responsible for branding the graphical component of the exhibit and designing the interpretative panels and a large-format building banner that adorned the front of the museum.

The lettermark we settled on integrated a war theme into its design. This was used for the exhibition's title wall and marketing materials. In addition to designing and printing the interpretative panels, I also designed and printed an exhibit reception mailer to help market the exhibit.

This was a very popular exhibit for the local community. The loaned works by notable historical figures drew a large audience. The highlight for the museum was getting to debut the works by Gerhard Berretz, a German artist whose watercolors depicted the harsh reality of war from the unique perspective of the Germans. The Berretz watercolors were loaned to the museum by the family of a WWII veteran who lived in a nearby community. In addition to designing for exhibits like In Times of War, I'd also assist the curatorial team with exhibit installation when needed.
